Levels show relative digital amplitude, not calibrated decibels. There is no live speaker monitoring. Hiding or leaving clears clips and releases capture.

How to test your microphone

Click Start microphone and allow access. Speak normally and watch the input meter. Choose another input if needed. To hear your voice, click Record clip, speak for a few seconds and click Finish recording. Stop the microphone, then use Play. You can download the clip or clear it from this tab.

Microphone troubleshooting

If access is denied, allow microphone permission in your browser’s site settings. If the meter stays quiet, check your mute switch, system input volume and selected device. Close other apps if the microphone cannot open. Near-clipping signals can be reduced by lowering input gain or moving farther from the microphone.

Mic check for a headset or USB microphone

Select the intended input and speak at a normal distance. A moving meter shows that the browser is receiving audio; optional recording lets you listen after stopping capture. Check system input settings and mute controls if your voice is quiet. The meter does not certify microphone quality.

Check sound output before playback — Test the left and right channels on your headphones or speakers.

Test your camera before a video call — Preview the camera and confirm the selected device.

Frequently asked questions

Can I test a headset or USB mic?

Yes, when the input is available to your browser. Allow microphone access and choose it from the device selector. Bluetooth and system audio settings can affect which input appears.

Why can I see levels but hear no playback?

Recording is optional. Record a clip, finish it and stop the microphone before playing it. Check your selected system audio output and volume.

Is my audio uploaded?

No. Input levels and optional recordings are processed locally. Recordings remain in this tab until cleared, replaced, the page becomes hidden or you leave. Download saves a file only when you choose.

Does testing automatically record me?

No. Start microphone runs the level meter. Recording begins only when you click Record clip and stops after at most 30 seconds.

Why is playback hidden while testing?

Playing a clip into an active microphone can cause feedback or affect the test. Stop the microphone before playing your saved clip.

Are these levels measured in decibels?

The meter shows relative digital signal amplitude. It is not a calibrated measurement of physical loudness or microphone quality.

Which recording format is downloaded?

Your browser selects a supported audio format, typically WebM, MP4/M4A or Ogg. The download extension matches the recorded format.
